STEM CELL REGISTRY INDIA(SCRI) CAMP
Stem Cell Registry India conducted a registration camp with the collaboration of Leo Club New Horizon Host in the New Horizon College campus on the 13th of September. It was about educating potential volunteers and encouraging them to register themselves in the global database for the stem cell registry which mainly focuses on curing leukemia and other related blood diseases.
The Stem Cell process is what can potentially save a life of a blood cancer-ailing patient. Here when the registered volunteer comes up as a match to the patient, the donor’s stem cells, with his permission, are collected from his bloodstream (rarely from the hip bone) and then processed, and then it is replaced in the patient’s bloodstream and thus saving the patient’s life.
This event was actually just a registration camp where the registry officials and the Leo club collected the buccal swabs of the volunteers and explained to them the process of what will happen when and if they come up as a match in the global database.
We had a good number of volunteers turning up for this event and had a wholesome registration of around 70.
