Eyes Of Courage
Organized by: NSS Club, New Horizon College of Engineering.
Date: 21st May 2025.
Venue: Nirwana, New Horizon College of Engineering.
On the 21st of May, 2025, the NSS (National Service Scheme) Club of New Horizon College of Engineering successfully organized a creative and socially impactful event titled “Eyes of Courage.” This thoughtfully designed event aimed to raise awareness about the lives of visually impaired individuals by simulating their daily experiences through a series of engaging and blindfolded activities. It served as a platform for participants to step into the shoes of those who navigate the world without sight, thereby promoting empathy, inclusion, teamwork and trust.

The primary objective of Eyes of Courage was to sensitize participants to the challenges faced by visually impaired individuals. By allowing participants to perform familiar tasks without the aid of vision, the event aimed to foster a deeper sense of empathy and understanding. Additionally, the activities were structured to encourage interpersonal trust, improve communication skills, and highlight the importance of teamwork in overcoming obstacles. Ultimately, the event sought to blend fun and learning in a way that left a lasting social impression.
To bring this vision to life, the NSS Club conceptualized a unique event that combined experiential learning with interactive gameplay. Instead of simply discussing the difficulties faced by visually impaired individuals, Eyes of Courage encouraged participants to step into their world, even if just for a few minutes. By performing everyday tasks while blindfolded, participants were encouraged to rely on their other senses, communicate more effectively, and trust their instincts or teammates. This hands-on approach not only made the learning more impactful but also created an atmosphere of camaraderie, challenge, and mutual respect.

The event comprised three engaging and interactive rounds, each designed to simulate the experience of visual impairment while promoting teamwork and communication. The first round, Doodle in the Dark, challenged participants to draw an image while blindfolded based on a visual prompt shown to them beforehand, resulting in creative and often humorous outcomes. The second round, Blind Construct, required participants to build a pyramid using paper cups while blindfolded, testing their coordination, patience, and spatial awareness. The final round, Trust Walk, was a two-person team activity where one participant, blindfolded, navigated an obstacle course with verbal guidance from their teammate, emphasizing the importance of trust, effective communication, and cooperation.
Eyes of Courage left a lasting impression on everyone involved. More than just a series of games, the event was a learning experience that encouraged participants to reflect on their abilities and appreciate the unseen struggles of others. By simulating tasks without the use of sight, participants not only had fun but also developed a newfound respect for the visually impaired community. The event succeeded in breaking down barriers, challenging assumptions, and opening eyes—both literally and metaphorically.

The Eyes of Courage event stands as a testament to the NSS Club’s commitment to creating socially conscious and impactful experiences for students. Through a perfect blend of innovation, fun and awareness, the event met its goal of promoting empathy, teamwork, and trust. It was a meaningful step toward building a more inclusive and understanding society—one where differences are not just acknowledged, but respected and celebrated. The NSS Club extends its heartfelt thanks to all participants, volunteers, and coordinators who made this event a grand success.
