INITIUM 2022

INITIUM

The three major clubs of New Horizon College of Engineering, took up the responsibility of conducting a fest called Initium 2022. This journey began in May from an idea, which materialized into a whole event. This was an opportunity for the student community to be more responsible and have firsthand experience at event management and execution. The preparation began as early as 15th of may, which followed through till the completion of the event. Literary Club, Media club and Music club were charged with the responsibility of hosting the majority of the events and the decoration was taken care of by the Art club. Initium began on 10th of June with
Ms. Aswathi Balakrishnan being our Special guest of the day, who is also an alumnus of new horizon college of engineering; the inauguration was also graced by the presence of our respected Principal Dr. Manjunatha and our Dean of Library and Alumni Relations Mrs. Anitha Rai. The day began ecstatically with a number of events lined up such as Treasure Hunt, Open mic, Quiz, Parliamentary debate, Cosplay and so on. Finally, the day ended on a high note, with our Dean of Library and Alumni Relations Mrs. Anitha Rai awarding the winners. We are grateful for this opportunity and thank the Principal, and the faculty and all supporting members for their guidance and support. Hoping for Initium 2023 to surpass its predecessor in all aspects.

     


COSPLAY

Event name: JoJo pose
Organizing clubs: Literary, Media and Music club

An anime themed cosplay event “JoJo Pose” was conducted on June 10th as a part of the intercolligiate literary fest “INITIUM” in New Horizon College of Engineering. Contestants had to dress up and design themselves to portray an anime character and possibly deliver a dialogue to gain extra points. Participants were judged based on costume, make up, confidence, delivery, acting, expressions and their overall impact on the audience.
We had characters from a variety of anime’s and the contestants put up absolutely spectacular performances that got the crowd roaring.

DIGITAL ART

Event Name: Manga Making – Digital Art
Organizing Clubs: Literary Club x Media Club x Music Club
Date: 10th June 2022
Time: 12pm onwards
Venue: Online

Digital Art making competition was conducted as a part of the intercollegiate literary fest ‘Initium’. It was a platform where students could showcase their creativity through art. There were 5 participants from different colleges who had taken part in this. The participants were made to use software like Photoshop or Canva according to their convenience.
The topic was Anime Fight Scene, which each of them had done brilliantly.
Each showcased their talent where some made their original art whereas some from an anime scene. The topic was given a day before the event for which they had to submit their art on the day of the fest. The judge was Varshini who selected the winner based on their creativity, uniqueness, originality,and how they tell the story and make it look presentable. Since this event was online, they had more time to do their art because of which all were done wonderfully and it was a tough decision. There was a very enthusiastic participant as well who was eager to see others’ art as well after he submitted his. Overall, the event proved to be a fun experience for all and I feel they enjoyed doing the art they liked.

JAM

Event name: JAM

Just a Minute (JAM) was conducted as an event as a part of the intercollegiate literary fest “INITIUM”. Contestants had to use their sharp sense of hearing to find technical errors in each other’s words as they spoke about a particular topic given to them by the judges.
For the first round, contestants had to try their best to speak about a topic given, without making errors such as hesitation, repetition, slurring etc, so as to gain more points. If another contestant pointed out an error, they would gain a point and get to speak themselves. A minute would be given per topic and whoever was speaking or jammed last, gained 5 extra
points.
The second round was based on air crash; participants have to imitate a famous personality and justify why they deserve the last parachute in an airplane falling out of the sky, over their opponent. It was a 2v2 scenario with a 3 minute time limit, with 6 participants for this final round.

OPEN MIC REPORT

Event Name: Perfect Blue – Open Mic
Organizing Clubs: Literary, Media, and Music Club
Date: 10th June 2022.
Timing: 11am onwards
Venue: Auditorium

An Open Mic was conducted as a part of the intercollegiate literary fest ‘Initium’. It was a platform to showcase the diverse artistry under one banner. There was a participation of over 25 students from various colleges showcasing their talents. The participants showcased a variety of talents like, Beatboxing, Singing, Stand Up Comedy, Mono acting, and rapping for 3 minutes each. The judges for open mic were Harry D ’Cruz and Shaun John.
They marked all performances based on Creativity, Uniqueness, Stage performance, and Audience Reaction.
The event lasted for an hour and after the incredible performances, we had 3 winners who won the audience and the show.

OPEN PHOTOGRAPHY

Event name: OPEN PHOTOGRAPHY
Organizing club: Literary Club, Media Club and Music club.

Venue: video conference room

Open photography was a photography contest based on the anime theme we had for initium 2022. Participants could capture any photo they wish; it could be candid, architecture etc. They were given 2+ hours to capture photos and submit through a Google drive link from where they were judged with brownie points being awarded to anime themed photos. The judge of the event was Harshavardhan Ivaturi , an alumni of our college, who judged based on skill, technique and creativity.

PARLIAMENTARY DEBATE

Event Name: Zero’s Britannia – Parliamentary Debate
Organizing Clubs: Literary, Media, and Music Club
Date: 10th June 2022.
Timing: 11 am onwards
Venue: MBA classroom 

The Parliamentary Debate was conducted as one of the events for Initium 2022, NHCE’s first Literary and Music Fest. The format of the debate was based on the British-style parliamentary debate, one of the official formats followed in debate tournaments worldwide. Participants competed in teams
of two from colleges across Bangalore. The individual speaking time ranged from 3 minutes to five minutes, depending on the discretion of
the judges. The judges for the event were Sania Simran, Zaid Huq, and Thomas Allwin, who awarded points based on Content, Teamwork, POI (Point of Information), and Rebuttal.
The topics given by the judges ranged from extremely political and controversial topics to abstract ones, where the teams went head-to-head against each other, engaging in fiery rebuttals and POIs. The event gave a chance for the participants to hone their logical as well as public speaking skills while coordinating with their teammates. Zero’s Britannia (Parliamentary Debate) was thus a huge success, with three teams emerging as award winners.

Pop Culture Quiz

Event Name: Jujutsu Quizen (Pop Culture Quiz)
Organizing Clubs:  Literary Club x Media Club x Music Club
Date: 10th June 2022
Time:  11am
Venue: MBA classroom

The event finally began at 11 am post the inauguration of the Fest, the students proceeded to the allotted venue MBA classroom, in the MBA dept. We had a good 10 teams registered and a moderately better turn up of 8 teams. This quiz was unlike any other, from mainstream to popular to highly unchartered territories. We began with a format of direct, bounce, and pounce, wherein each team got the direct question which would bounce if they didn’t know and then other teams could pounce on it. We followed this whole through the quiz with all the rounds and continued further. Coming to the final round called Connect, where the participants had to see a certain flow of images coming and determine what connects them all. They all had a lot of excitement when we got into the images.
Finally, we found the champions who bettered the rest of the teams in the event to claim the top step and win, this concluded our Quiz event.

Shoot Yo Shot

Event name: Shoot Yo Shot
Organizing club: Literary Club, Media Club and Music club.
Date: 10th June 2022.
Timing: 2:00 pm
Venue: Auditorium

This ‘Sidemen Tinder’ inspired event was conducted on the stage in the auditorium. Here, volunteers would stand behind the “Profile” type banner and receive a pick-up line from the participants. Every participant was given 45 seconds to shoot their pick-up lines and the volunteers would then swipe left or right – Left being the sign rejection and Right being the sign of approval. Every volunteer was considered as a round and every participant was given a chance to shoot their shot at each volunteer. The winner was decided based on the participants with the most number of right swipes.

Slam Poetry

Event Name: Death Note – Slam Poetry
Organizing Clubs: Literary, Media, and Music Club
Date: 10th June 2022.
Timing: 12 pm onwards
Venue: Auditorium

Slam poetry was one of the main events of the Literary Fest, Initium. The event was focused to promote the expression of one’s self through poetry. Writers and poets from across colleges in Bangalore participated in the event. There were no language restrictions. The participants had to perform for 3 minutes each on any topic of their choice. The judge for the event
was Shaun John, who marked their work based on Body Language and Expression, Stage Performance, Articulation, Originality, Audience Responsiveness, Language, and Structure. The poems were on various topics expressing love, pain, and even drama. The event was a massive success success and had a wonderful crowd response.

Solo Instrumental

Event name :  ZANPAKUTO MELODY

Timing: 3 pm to 4 pm
Venue: Auditorium

Solo Instrumental was a key event on the agenda of Initium 2022. It aimed at providing college students from across Bangalore a platform to demonstrate musical expression. Participants from various colleges
took part in what was a brilliant display of musical skill and talent.
Participants had to play a musical piece with an instrument of their choice; a cover or their individual take on an existing piece of music or an original composition. They had to perform this under a time limit of four minutes. Participants were judged on originality of composition, skill, and stage presence.
The event saw participants with varying and extensive skills and proved to be very engaging to the audience. Judging by crowd response and participation talent, the event was a great success.

Treasure Hunt

Event Name: One Piece (Treasure Hunt)
Organizing Clubs: Literary, Media, and Music Club
Date: 10th June 2022.
Timing: 11 am onwards
Venue: New Horizon College of Engineering Campus

A Treasure hunt was conducted as a part of the intercollegiate literary fest ‘Initium’. It was a race against time to solve riddles, find locations and complete the hunt before the other teams finished. There was a participation of over 25 teams from various colleges to test their skills and speed. Participants could be seen running all around campus in search of clues given to them from each location, leading them to their final destination to complete the event. The first round had more than 25
teams scanning QR codes scattered across the campus, with only the smartest and the fastest ones being able to qualify for the second round. The first round ended with 8 teams finishing the hunt.
The second round followed a similar fashion to the first one, except there was another layer of complexity involved: performing random tasks. Before receiving a clue from a location, participants were asked to complete a particular task, whether it be shooting a basketball shot, spelling out difficult words, or just plain rock paper scissors. Each team could be seen completing each task with vigor, determined to stay one step ahead of their competition by finishing the tasks as soon as possible to start
solving the riddle for the next location.
The event lasted for around 5 hours, with two rounds of treasure hunts, and after a lot of neck-to-neck competition, the event ended with one team of 4 as the victors, who had well earned their victory, and hence the “treasure”.
