Art Competition for Orphanage Children

As part of social activity by Green Warriors Club, the team conducted “Art Competition for Orphanage Children“, program on the 26th of October, 2019. The main objective of this event is to create awareness about the importance of environment to the orphanage children and to bring it out in the form of art. This event was conducted in collaboration with the Sociopolitical Club.

The team reached the orphanage at around 12:00 p.m. The children of the orphanage were excited to receive the members. There was a huge smile on the faces of orphanage children and we were very happy to indulge with them. There were approximately 35 orphans. We carried some goodies to create a bond with the students. We also carried some crayons, colors pencils, pens and A3 sheets for the kids to carry out some fun activities and engage them.

We were first greeted by the staff-keepers and introduced ourselves and portrayed what our objectives were. The staff was really polite, helping us carry out with our activities and helping us to communicate in easier manner with the children. Initially, the children were a little hesitant and nervous but as time passed they got along very well.

We first made them understand about the environment we are in and the problems faced by our Mother Earth with all the pollution & plastic and also on how the greenery is depleting. By collaborating with the Sociopolitical Club, a drawing competition was held for the kids where their creativity was displayed, the student volunteers interacted with the children helping them with their drawings and we awarded the winners with stationary sets. We distributed all the goodies and refreshments such as biscuits, juices and chocolates.

The orphanage children engaged us with their dance performances and also sang songs from different languages. The children interacted with us completely telling us their memories and instances they came across and we shared our memories and told them various stories as well. We also conducted a small game (musical chairs), where the children were involved with great happiness and excitement. The team spent a little over six hours with the children before saying goodbye.

CONCLUSION:

We were acknowledged with an award. The Goodbyes were hard and we left the Orphanage with a mixture of good feelings and sad emotions. The visit encouraged to do more for the needy and help them. The experience was very memorable. It was indeed a very satisfying experience for the students as they could bring smiles on children’s faces. We realized that one must contribute and understand his/her social responsibilities towards society, and we would like to spread the message across to everyone.
