Alumni club of New Horizon College of Engineering had conducted an expert talk on “Inclusion is no longer a choice, its an imperative on 16th November 2022,our guest speaker Ms. Vaishnavi accompanied by Ms. Esther who was trained and a professional sign language expert and a mentee.
Topics which was covered were Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Sign Language, where Diversity is about what makes each of us unique and includes our background, personality, etc.
Equity means recognizing that we do not all start from the same place and must acknowledge and make adjustments to imbalances
Inclusion aims to embraces all people irrespective of race, gender, disability, medical etc.
A language used especially by people who cannot
hear or speak, using the hands to make signs instead
of spoken words.
Interestingly, most countries that share the same
spoken language do not necessarily have the same
sign language as each other. English for example, has
three varieties: American Sign Language (ASL), British
Sign Language (BSL) and Australian Sign Language
(Auslan).
Ms. Esther taught the audience about the sign
language and how to express the English alphabets
and numbers through gestures. Later we also got to
learn how to express few phrases like, good
morning, good afternoon, hello, thankyou.
It was overall a fun event
