Role of Mechanical Engineers in Developing Young India

Defence manufacturing is only for the changing times, even though India is a peace-loving country. India’s goal is to modernize its armed forces and reduce its dependency on foreign defence procurement in this regard. As a result, the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) is expanding its capabilities by hiring more mechanical engineers to meet the demand.  

To meet the aim, HAL, BEL, NAL, BHEL, BDL, IRPPL, and a few other military manufacturing businesses, as well as other working sectors, are expected to develop in size and quantity. To meet present and future requirements, many organizations also hire engineers with mechanical abilities.  

Apart from that, the government has implemented several policies and supports measures to encourage ‘Make in India’ operations. The Tata group is a major private sector player in the defence and aerospace industries, and it is at the forefront of the “Make in India” campaign. Among the firms that contribute to the development of military requirements are Astra Microwave Products, Apollo Microsystems, Reliance Nawal and Engineering Ltd, Sika Interplant Systems Ltd, and a few more. Mechanical Engineers may have even more job opportunities now that the country has declared a goal to succeed in exporting armaments and ammunition.  

To promote and aid private sector investments in the military industry, India has developed a green channel status (GCP) policy. Several established Indian companies are also interested in producing military hardware to reduce India’s dependency on foreign weaponry and munitions while increasing domestic manufacturing. The military ministry has set a goal of achieving 70 percent weapon self-sufficiency by 2027, which presents a significant potential for the industry.  

The Self-Reliant India initiative, or Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan, has created a flurry of defence manufacturing start-ups in recent years. Around the country, young mechanical engineers had started defence manufacturing enterprises, creating a wave of new jobs. Top military startups include Tonbo Imaging, AXIO, Cron System, Eye Rov, Idea forge, Vinvali, Dimension NXG, Optimized Electro-Tech, Sagara Military Engineering, and Bing Bang Boom Solutions.  

Mechanical engineers will be able to choose from a wide range of work opportunities, many of which will be global in scope. The evergreen branch has a lot to contribute to making the world a better place by being a jack of all trades. Mechanical engineers can work in a variety of industries, and modern technologies will aid in the development of companies that do not exist now. Experts predict that mechanical engineers will have a bright future.

India is predicted to grow at an annual rate of 8.8% from 2020 to 2030, according to industry statistics and data. After achieving its goal of a $5 trillion (about $15,000 per person in the US) GDP, India will be at the top of the list. By the year 2050, India will be a developed country. Mechanical engineers would make a substantial contribution to achieving this goal.
