On November 5, 2024, New Horizon College of Engineering’s Alumni Club delighted students with an event titled Old School Games, where everyone came together to celebrate the thrill of traditional games like Lagori, Dodgeball, Tug of War, and Hopscotch. Designed as a throwback to childhood, this event encouraged students to take a break from their busy routines and embrace the nostalgia of playground favorites. For just a registration fee of 25 rupees, students enthusiastically joined in, fueling a day packed with laughter, rivalry, and community spirit. All funds raised will be directed to support a local orphanage, transforming this enjoyable day into an opportunity for positive social impact. As part of the Sargam promotional activities, Old School Games emphasized the Alumni Club’s mission to blend community engagement with social responsibility, reminding students of the joy that comes from giving back.
The games created a buzzing atmosphere, with everyone cheering and rooting for their friends as they rediscovered the simple joy in each activity. Here’s how each game added its own unique excitement to the day:
• Lagori – “The game of stack-and-smash! Participants raced to stack seven stones, only to scatter them with a well-aimed ball, dodging hits as they tried to rebuild the stack. This game was a test of precision, teamwork, and agility as teams cheered on their players to hit or defend, every hit and miss bringing a chorus of gasps and laughter.”
• Dodgeball – “Fast-paced and intense, Dodgeball had everyone on their toes, ducking and diving as if the ball were lava! As one team flung balls across the court, the other team dodged with everything they had, trying to be the last one standing. With quick reflexes and lightning-fast throws, each player fought for glory, the thrill intensifying with every dodge and catch.”
• Tug of War – “In the ultimate battle of strength, teams faced off, gripping the rope tightly as they braced themselves for the pull of a lifetime! Heels dug in, muscles strained, and chants filled the air as each team attempted to pull the other across the line. This game of pure grit and strategy had everyone cheering as they fought to see who would hold their ground or be tugged into defeat.”
• Hopscotch – “A test of balance, rhythm, and precision! With chalked squares on the ground, players had to hop through the course on one foot, trying not to stumble as they balanced on a single square. This game brought out smiles and nostalgic giggles as students recalled playground days, hopping skillfully through the
course with their friends cheering them on.”
The event was a colorful medley of camaraderie and spirited rivalry, with friends supporting and challenging each other, and even faculty joining in on the fun. This initiative wasn’t just a day to unwind and play; it was an avenue for students to contribute to a meaningful cause. As the day wound down, everyone left with fond memories, a deepened connection with their college community, and a renewed sense of purpose, knowing their participation would help support children in need.
Old School Games was a perfect reminder that traditional games can still bring joy, unite people, and inspire positive change. Through this event, New Horizon College’s Alumni Club demonstrated its commitment to fostering togetherness, fun, and a lasting impact on society.
