Cryptic Escape event was organized in such a way that the participants learned to apply the different ways of deciphering a piece of text, and enhanced their knowledge in some important concepts and practices in the field of cyber security.
This event consisted of 3 rounds:
Cipher Run
The inaugural round of the Cipher Run event focused on deciphering famous phrases from movies and sitcoms, along with common words related to cyber security. Participants engaged in utilizing various straightforward deciphering techniques, with club volunteers providing insightful explanations of the ciphering methods employed.
Phishy
In the dynamic second round, Phishy, participants were presented with an Instagram account of a fictional character. Tasked with deciphering the account password through a specially crafted website, successful logins revealed a blurred image of a location on campus. The outdoor adventure unfolded as participants navigated to this spot, where they received the next clue. Engaging in enjoyable tasks, one of which involved identifying the phished website, this round blended online and on-site challenges for a thrilling experience.
Cryptic Escape
In the climactic Cryptic Escape round, participants faced a series of formidable decryption challenges. Upon successfully unraveling one task, they received the next word to decipher, cleverly interlinking each question with clues embedded in the answers. This mentally stimulating and thought-provoking round demanded strategic thinking and showcased the participants’ prowess in navigating intricate cryptographic puzzles.
CODEMASTER was a competitive coding event organized by the Cyber Security and Ethical Hacking (CSEH) club. With a lineup of 10 handcrafted questions, ranging from 4 easy, 3 medium, to 3 hard challenges, participants embarked on a journey of problem-solving prowess. Each question was handcrafted by the skillful club members, aimed to be beginner-friendly, fostering a supportive environment for coding novices to explore and learn. Through this event, students were encouraged to unravel the practical applications of coding in tackling real-world problems, igniting their passion for computational thinking and innovation. The event was conducted on online platform called Hackerrank.com for 3 hours. CodeMaster aimed not only to discover the best coders in college but also to inspire and support newcomers on their coding journey.
“X-Factor” was a competitive coding event organized by the Cyber Security and Ethical Hacking (CSEH) club. Upon the hacker’s Instagram boast, participants scour profiles for clues, stumbling upon a breadcrumb trail leading to a Google Drive. Inside lies the elusive “flag.txt” harboring the hacker’s concealed IP address. Eight teams race to decrypt their encrypted port numbers and application names, embarking on an exchange mission with a single partner team. As they crack codes and unravel the backdoor, the trio of ciphertext, cipher, and key morphs into a plaintext, unlocking the gateway to the hacker’s proxy server via the first QR code. Whittled down to four elite teams, the QR odyssey guides them through a campus maze, each starting from unique points. Chess positions unveil basketball courts, mini-sudokus divulge secret locales, all inching closer to the hacker’s lair, culminating in a high-stakes DSA contest to pinpoint the hacker’s physical domain.
SHOWDOWN, the culminating event of the Student of the Year competition within Connect 24, was organized by the Cyber Security and Ethical Hacking (CSEH) club. This day-long sports extravaganza served as the final round to determine the ultimate Student of the Year. Participants engaged in a diverse array of athletic challenges, including throwball, basketball poison, and table tennis, each designed to test different aspects of physical prowess and strategic thinking. The event drew spectators who witnessed intense competition as contestants strove to outperform their peers across multiple disciplines. As the day progressed, the field of competitors gradually narrowed, with each game and point bringing participants closer to victory or elimination. SHOWDOWN not only showcased the athletic abilities of the contestants but also highlighted their mental fortitude and sportsmanship. By day’s end, one exceptional individual emerged victorious, earning the prestigious Student of the Year title and concluding this rigorous competition.
