About the club:

Acumen club is a platform that provides opportunities for students to exhibit talent, acquired skills and learn new aspects of management. This club conducts activities related to different aspects of management. These are the basic skills required to be successful in the career. Acumen means, the ability to make good judgments and quick decisions.

Objectives of the club:

  • To inculcate leadership skills and management skills among students
  • To come up with creative thinking ability
  • To provide a platform to exhibit and improve core skills

 

Acumen club conducted 3 events during Upagraha 2019,  on 21th and 22nd of October namely,

  • Pratham (Finance event)
  • Saral (Marketing event)
  • Swayam(HR event)

Details of the events conducted on 21th October 2019 are as follows:

Pratham:

Pratham was a Finance event. The first round of the event was Financial Quiz, conducted at Department of Management Studies, New Horizon College of Engineering. The quiz consists of 25 questions based on general finance and Current affairs. The participants were given 30 mins to complete the quiz. The first round started at 10:00 Am and it was concluded at 10:30 Am.

Based on the scores, 50% of the least scoring participants were eliminated after the first round.

 

The judge for the second round was:

Mr. Lokesh. K. N, Asst Professor, Department of Management Studies, New Horizon College of Engineering.

 

The second round of the event Pratham started at 1:00 Pm on the same day. The second round was Comparative Balance sheet analysis, conducted at the Department of Management Studies, New Horizon College of Engineering. The second round was based on providing insights on a proper report by analyzing the company’s balance sheets. Participants had to give conclusions about the company’s balance sheet and give an explanation.

Based on the performance of each team, judges gave the scores and accordingly the teams were taken ahead for the next round.

 

Saral:

Saral was a Marketing event. The first round of the event was Brand Portraiture, conducted at Department of Management Studies, New Horizon College of Engineering. The first round was based on determining the importance of Brand and quick thinking capability. 12 products will be displayed and each team should write down the name of the brands concerning the product.

 

The first round started at 10:30 Am and was concluded at noon. Based on the scores given by judges, 50% of the least scoring participants were eliminated after the first round.

 

Second round of Saral was Mix and Match, Shortlisted team was given a combination of a product and a brand. According to that the team should innovate a new product and explain the strategies of the product. Each team was given 15 minutes to present to the judges.

 The second was conducted at Department of Management Studies, New Horizon College of Engineering, it started at 2:00 Pm and was concluded at 3:30 Pm.

 

Swayam:

Swayam was an HR event. The first round of the event was a Jumbled Puzzle, which was conducted at the Department of Management Studies, New Horizon College of Engineering. In the first round, a jumbled puzzle was given and the participants had to find the words in the puzzle related to HR. It started at 10:30 Am and was concluded at 12:15 Pm.

The second round of the event was based on the video displayed to the participants and from the video few questions were answered by participants. They were provided 10 minutes to answer the questions.

The second round was at Department of Management Studies, New Horizon College of Engineering. It was started at 1:30 Pm and was concluded at 3:00 Pm.

  Details of the events conducted on 22nd October 2019 are as follows:

On 22nd October 2019, Final rounds of all the 3 events i.e., Pratham, Saral, and Swayam was conducted.

Pratham:

The final round of the event was Stock Market(offline). The final round was started at 11:00 Am and was concluded at 1:00 Pm. Based on the scores given by judges, the group scoring highest scores were announced as Winners and the following groups were awarded second and third place accordingly.

Saral:

The third round of the event was Bring It On, in which the participants were asked to get products of different brands.

The third round was started at 10:30 Am and was concluded at 11:30 Am. Based on the number of products the teams were shortlisted to the final round.

The final round of the event was Business Plan, in which each team had to explain about the business plan. Each team was given 15mins to present their business plan.

The Final round was started at 2:00 Pm and was concluded at 3:15 Pm. Based on the presentation and business ideas participants were judged.

Swayam: The third round of the event was based on situations, participants had to role-play according to the situation given. Each team was given 10 minutes to make their presentation. The third round was started at 10:00 Am and was concluded at 11:30 Am. Based on the scores given by judges, the group scoring highest scores were shortlisted for the final round.

The final round of the event was Startup Plan, in which each team had to explain the recruitment process, selection process, what kind of jobs does the company provide, plan on job description and specifications, and explain about training program. Each team was given 15mins to present their business plan.

The Final round was started at 2:00 Pm and was concluded at 3:15 Pm. Based on the presentation and complete startup working process participants were judged.

Outcome:

  • Pratham: To inculcate the idea about basic finance through Quiz and to make the participants familiar with the Financial aspects that will be carried in any company by using comparative balance sheet and get them familiar with the stock market.
  • Saral: The event was focused on the various aspects of Marketing to make the participants familiar with Branding and developing business with the given resources
  •  Swayam: It focused on the HR aspects which will help the participants to think from an HR perspective.

The Acumen Club, from the department of Management Studies, NHCE organized an intra-collegiate event BATTLESHIP v2.0. the event included 3 separate events melt, NIREEKSHAK that tested the marketing domain knowledge of participants; ARIHANTH that was finance based and VIKRANTH that was Human Resources based.
The event began with an inaugural ceremony at the MBA seminar hall where the Faculty coordinator addressed the participants and wished them good luck.
NIREEKSHAK:
Consisted of 3 rounds where participants had to come out with creativity to indulge in product development and design.
A total of 20+ teams participated.

AAROHAN 2018

Acumen  Club, under the guidance of our Head of The Department Dr. Sheelan Misra and Faculty co-ordinator Tejas Vyas organised a one day event  ARROHAN- 2018 where  the team conducted three  events namely  : CHAKRAVYUH(finance), ADVAIYDA(marketing) and DRONA(human resource).

 

The event  began with the inaugural  ceremony where  the participants were addressed by the Head Of The Department, enlightening the purpose and benefit of the competition. She motivated the participants to display enthusiasm and optimism whilst participation.

Teams from department of Computer Science Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Biotechnology, Electrical Engineering, Information  Sciences,  Masters of Computer Applications and Management and Commerce undergraduates had participated to make  this event  a great  success.

 

All the events were performed in teams of two. The three  events took place  simultaneously, below is a breif report  on each:

ADVAIYDA(marketing)

Consisting of two major rounds, Hastag and Spotlight.

 

Under Hashtag students had to come up with catchy taglines and jingles for the brands that were asked of them

 

In Spotlight, teams were asked to spot the flaws of randomly assigned products and come up with strategies to revive them  in the market.

Round 1 Stockmind Participants played virtual stock market on the app and competed against one another

 

Round 2 Quiz Questions testing general knowledge in the finance dwelling industries.

Ban on Rs500 and 1000 note was passed by RBI under the guidance of PM i.e Mr.Narendra

Modi. Demonetization of currency was done to stop the flow of fake currency in the country

and also to bring the black money back to the country.It is necessary to know the purpose

and idea behind the demonetization for management students.

Department of MBA, marketing club “MANTRAM” conducted an event “Product Selfie” on 15th of November 2016 in Falconry seminar hall. The judges for the event were Ms. Smitha and Mr. Tejas, from department of MBA.

 

In this event.

Mr. Ajal, president of marketing club hosted the event along with Ashish Govind, the Committee member.

There were 3 rounds.

  • First round consists of creativity of the product and also the selfie with the product.
  • Second round consists of confidence, attitude and communication skills were the participants have to speak about their product and come up with their own tagline.
  • Third round consists of questions and answer round where the participants had to answer to the questions asked by the judges.

The event received good response from the judges and the students from the department of MBA. It was an exciting event where the participants had to showcase their skill in marketing.
