Professor and Controller of Examination
New Horizon College of Engineering is an autonomous institute, effective from August 2015, affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum. The institute promotes academic curriculum as per the needs of the industry and new developments in the various fields.
The office of the Controller of Examinations was established in the year 2015 after the confirment of Autonomous status to the institute.
The responsibilities of the office are:
- Preparing Semester End Examination time table.
- Conducting the Semester End Examinations (SEE).
- Processing and publishing results in time.
- Issuing certificates such as Grade Sheet, Consolidated Statements of Grade, Provisional Certificate and Transcripts.
- Sending a list of successful candidates with their Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) to the Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum for issuing Original Degree Certificate.
The examination for the autonomous courses is conducted by the Institute, in two stages emphasising continuous Internal Evaluation [CIE] throughout the semester and Semester End Examination [SEE] at the end of the semester. Complete examination process is executed by the Office of the Controller of Examination in coordination with all departments.
Notifications, SEE timetable, instructions, guidelines etc. any additions and modifications are invariably being notified on the website from time to time
SEE results of undergraduate and post graduate examinations are announced in website within a week of completion of Examination.
After the successful completion of a course, the institute recommends the student to Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum, to award the degree in the respective branch.
AUTONOMOUS EVALAUTION SYSTEM
Student has to acquire a minimum attendance of 85% and Minimum CIE marks of 40% (UG) and 50% (PG) in each course to be eligible to take up SEE.
Any student who fails to have 85% attendance will be declared as NSAR (Not Satisfied Attendance Requirement)
And scores less than 40% will be declared as NSSR (Not Satisfied Sessional Requirement).

Grade Point Averages:
SGPA and CGPA: The credit index can be used further for calculating the Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA) and the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA), both of which being important performance indices of the student. While
- SGPA is equal to the credit index for a semester divided by the total number of credits registered by the student in that semester,
- CGPA gives the sum total of credit indices of all the previous semesters divided by the total number of credits registered in all these semesters
The order in which SEE is conducted is as follows:
Semester End Examination: At the end of every semester (ODD/EVEN) the institute shall conduct Examination. Evaluation is done under the supervision and jurisdiction of Controller of Examination.
Generally ODD Semester End Examinations is held between November to December and Even Semester End Examinations is held between April to May.
A student shall be considered to have completed a Course successfully and earned the credits if he/she secures an acceptable letter grade in the range S to E. Letter grade 'F' in any Course implies failure of the student in that Course and no credits earned.
Makeup Examination: Student who obtains transitional grades such as ‘I’, ‘W’ and ‘X’ in SEE are eligible to appear in subsequent examinations considered as Makeup Examination, and can secure Letter Grades for that particular course. Student who fails to obtain letter grades in Makeup Examination will automatically obtain F grade for respective course.
Revaluation: It is a grievance redressing mechanism which facilitates the students to get the answer scripts reassessed by a different examiner.
FAST TRACK SEMESTER: Student who obtain F grade in a particular course including absent/NSSR/NSAR in ODD and EVEN semester is eligible for Fast Track for that particular course only. Studentcan register for Fast Track examination with maximum of 16 credits .He/She will have to attend the classes and take up the CIE once again and then further Fast Track Examination. FAST TRACK SEMESTER is held between June-August.
Eligibility to appear for FAST TRACK SEMESTER Examination is same as SEE.
ELIGIBILITY TO PROGRESS FOR THE NEXT ACADEMIC YEAR
Maximum Number of ‘F’ Grades that can be carried at the end of academic year is four only with Minimum CGPA =5.0. Else the Student is not eligible to the next academic Year.
If a student fails to get the passing letter Grades (S to E) after five attempts in any of the courses then the student is Declared as Not Fit for Technical Education, in which case he cannot further continue his/her education in the Institute.
