MUN17 for website

The media club of NHCE hosted an intra college MUN conference on the 28th and 29th Aug, 2017 respectively. With more than 90 participants from both NHCE and NHCM at the second edition of this this conference, the discussions were of the highest regard and brought about some important debate to the table.

Model United Nations is an academic simulation of the United Nations in which students get an opportunity to fill in the shoes of diplomats thereby enabling them to get a detailed insight of how international relations work.
Here, students play the role of delegates from different countries and attempt to solve real world issues keeping in mind their country’s foreign policy and the sittuation of the global community in hand.

At this year’s intra college conference, the agenda was to discuss “The legality of supplying weapons in armed conflicts”. With delegates given different countries, it was their duty to debate on this topic and also find loopholes and solutions to the same. The event had a majority of First years which enables us to understand the enthusiasm amongst them. This event also served as platform to recruit students into the college MUN team which would be sending delegations to different colleges around the city and country. At the end of the event, 6 students were selected to be a part of the team and showed some excellent character.

Independence Day 2017

“The tyrant dies and his rule is over, the martyr dies and his rule begins.” – Soren Kierkegaard

To us, super heroes were not the creatures with colorful capes and extraordinary super powers. Instead, our superheroes wore a camouflaged uniform and held guns in their hands. Each one of them have given up their chance of having an easy and luxurious life style, barred comfort levels only to provide us with a safe good night’s sleep.

And what’s a better day to honour families of such heroes who are the real sons of our mother land?

The members of the Media club, NHCE, thus decided to pay tribute to Lt. Col E.K Niranjan and Major Sandeep unnikrishnan by visiting their families on the occasion of our 70th independence day.
The team of 6 students which consisted of Nishanth Reddy K, Joshua Tom Jacob, Anu John, Somya Singh, Nishant Jha and Bhawik Thanna, along with Mr. Krishna Chandran, a faculty from the MCA department began from the college premises around 9:20am, to reach their first stop.
NSG Commando Lt Col Niranjan who recently lost his life while defusing a grenede at the Pathankot airbase attacks. The team was warmly welcomed by his father who remembered his son with teary eyes on the day India gained independence that he lost his life fighting for. His father EK Shivarajan recalled his son’s last words to him being “dad! I’m on an operation i’ll call you back”. He shared a very emotional time with our team speaking about his son’s love for the olive uniform, his awe worthy achievements and the struggles Lt Col Niranjan went through to become what he was. They were also shown the gallery of photographs and achievements which brought goosebumps to each one of them.
They left the place after a brief interaction with the man who though sad for the loss of his son, would always remain a proud father.

The second stop was at ISRO layout, at the abode of late Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan who was martyred in action during the 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attacks. Mr. K Unnikrishnan, an ex employee of ISRO and his wife Dhanalakshmi Unnikrishnan welcomed our team with considerable respect for our thought. They shared an insight of their life before and after losing their most loved and only son, which left even the strongest person in the room teary eyed, the stories of how Maj sandeep chose to handle the terrorists himself with minimum injuries to his subordinates and his last words of “Do not come up, I will handle them” before he was shot at the back and later succumbed to death. His mother recalled his he days as a very lovable child who was good at both academics and athletics and that he would have been 40 this year, had it not have been for that unfortunate day that blew away the light in their lives. Though it has been 9 years since, Mr. Unnikrishnan and his wife still cannot remember their son without tears in their eyes and a cracked voice. They definitely believe atleast a small percentage of the population gets inspired by the brave soldier who always said that he wanted the whole nation to remember him when he dies.

Both the families were handed over a small token of our love for giving this nation the greatest gifts anyone could ever give, two bravehearts who would never leave our hearts and whose names would always make our hair rise in pride.
